About Aaliyah
Welcome!
My name is Aaliyah, I use they/them pronouns and I am a doula, perinatal educator, and herbalist.
I was a chef/nutritionist/herbalist before getting into the reproductive health space (somewhat of a drastic pivot, I know).
An intense car accident changed that, one that took a year and 4 major surgeries to recover from.
Just as I was getting cleared from my medical team to return back to work, the US went into quarantine for the pandemic.
Instead of forcing myself back into a career that prioritized speed and efficiency over my health and wellbeing, I chose to focus on healing and processing the remnants of the car accident. I became a student of somatic intelligence, somatic emotional release, trauma healing and processing, and started trying to pinpoint the practical skills and knowledge that got me through the initial recovery (those first 6 months), and the subsequent physical/mental/emotional recovery (from month 6-now).
I went through my recovery (mostly) alone. I didn’t have someone to help me navigate the medical world, get my needs met (just getting to my appointments was a major challenge), or help me understand my options and choose what was best for me. I knew I never wanted anyone to go through a major medical life transition without the care, support, and guidance they need because I had such intimate knowledge of how that lack of support and care could impact the recovery process. I started looking into life coaching, health coaching, and anything else I could find that would help me refine the knowledge I had collected through my experience and package it in a way that could help others.
Through that journey, I became friends with the owner of a doula training organization, and I haven’t looked back since. They told me about doula work, and it aligned perfectly with what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. I started studying with their organization and I haven’t looked back.
