About the Author

Hey, I’m Aaliyah! I use they/them pronouns, and I am a full-spectrum doula, perinatal educator, and herbalist. My education in the perinatal field has been focused on herbalism for the perinatal period, supporting the physiology of the body during childbirth to help optimize the experience, gender-affirming care, trauma-informed care, and newborn care and attachment. I’m a certified full spectrum doula, certified community health worker, a lactation educator, and a childbirth educator.

I have supported almost 200 families through their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods in the 6 years I’ve been a perinatal professional, and I have been studying and practicing herbalism for 16 years. I have lived experience in navigating the medical system through intense, transformative life changes -both as the patient and as the caregiver. Most of my professional experience has been supporting people who are medically complicated or have medically complicated pregnancies - those who are navigating gestational diabetes, high blood pressure or preeclampsia, IUGR, high anxiety, etc.

“This is a beautiful, well written, and thoughtful book you’ve created. I feel your kindness in it and your urgency and passion in equipping people to advocate for themselves and have good birthing/parenting experiences. Your voice in it is the same as it is in person-intentional, personal, knowledgeable, and loving.”
